Water Collectors

Submission Details for "Water Collectors"

We are seeking art, stories, poetry, essays, and interviewees exploring what people of the African diaspora gain when in and around bodies of water.

Publication details: This project is set to begin in 2025 with a 2026 publication date. A volunteer editorial board will review and choose pieces for publication. We are currently working on generating funds so this vision will come to life in the most expansive way.

If your work is chosen to be in the anthology you will receive $100 monetary compensation for written work or $50 for visual contribution, plus 1 copy of the published book with additional copies available to you at cost.

Why is this “Water” project important?

Water as an elemental entity unto itself has much to share with seekers.

Confidence in the waters might lead to spiritual/emotional freedom in life.

Speaking into our relations with waters' powerful consciousness can bring wholeness and healing for all beings and our earth.

We are water.

Statistics show approximately 70% of African Americans can’t swim. 58% of black children can’t swim, which tragically leads to a drowning rate of Black Americans that is 50 % higher than that of Caucasians in the USA. Finding pathways to commune with water is a cultural reclamation project where the ability to restructure happens by connecting safely in water.

Why “Water” now?

Life is not viable without water. Water resources, reflects and stabilizes our bodies systems. Water is holy facilitating, resurrection, reconstruction, sovereignty and magic. Being in and around water offers the possibility of guiding one back to primal health. Sharing joy through waters’ blessings saturates us in love.

Possible questions to ponder for submission:

-Are you able to recall details from the generational waters you come from?

-What is the connection between water, breath, fear and life?

-How can water assist black bodies in dreaming beyond current reality into futures with healthy narratives?

-How does water speak through us about times before we came to be oppressed / colonized?

-What does it mean to be in right relationship with water?

-How do bodies in survival learn to relax in the water?

-How does water hold information about existence before this lifetime?

-How does water allow the capacity to dream into new dimensions?

How to submit:

There is no fee for submission.
